Mission
SMWT exists to enable, engage and empower migrants, refugees and former refugees to create a truly multicultural Southland to break down barriers and promote cultures by sharing our similarities and celebrating our differences. This promotes a strong sense of identity and belonging for migrants , who call or want to make the southland their home and to make a positive contribution to its cultural diversity.
Vision
Our vision is to set a benchmark in the multicultural sector by working collaboratively with partners and organisations that share our values of embracing multicultural integration and community cohesion. We focus on the needs of our ethnically diverse communities to enable them to develop a sense of belonging and ownership of their heritage and culture. We deliver for three programme areas; Social, Education, Culture, to share our similarities and celebrate our differences.
Objectives
To engage, empower and enable migrants, refugees and former refugees from all four corners of the globe through:
Multicultural Southland has been set up to empower minority groups & the wider community.
To improve communication on a community level. Building confidence, self esteem, social opportunities and community cohesion.
To support individuals & groups from international heritages to embrace their culture and share it with friends, family and neighbours.
We aim to seek out migrant people that live & work in Southland to be actively involved, before we look for skills outside of the region .
